Step 1: Choose a Strain

Science shows the kratom tree only produces three kratom strains: Red Vein, White Vein, and Green Vein. That’s it. All other fancy name kratom packaging are just marketing fluff. Once you know your preferred vein, choosing your kratom becomes simple.

Red Vein

Red Vein kratom is harvested from mature leaves grown towards the top of the tree where it receives the most sunlight. As a result, the alkaloids tend to be more mature and robust. The leaves and veins have a deep reddish hue almost like a sunburn. These leaves offer excellent pain relief but can be in-the-couch sedative when consumed in substantial amounts over five grams. Studies show Red is great for some post-op surgical pain, de-stressing, sleep insomnia, and chronic physical aches. However, Red Vein is not advisable to consume when operating machinery or for activities that require focused alertness. Rather, it will put you into a relaxed mood sociably or solo.

White Vein

White Vein Kratom is harvested from young leaves at the bottom of the tree which gets the least amount of sunlight in the dense jungles. The young leaves and veins are a light, fresh green like new spring grass. They offer lots of high energy, spot-on focus, and can be euphoric in amounts of four grams or less. Beware, beyond five grams sedation begins to set in. White Kratom is a great substitute for caffeinated coffee and soft drinks, mid-afternoon pick-ups, and for activating higher energy levels of concentration and stamina for long workdays or play nights.

Green Vein

Green Vein Kratom is like a blend of Red and White Vein characteristics: some pain relief mixed with energy and euphoria. Perhaps, that is why it appeals to most people. Green Vein leaves are similar in color to White Vein, but greener like Kentucky summer grass. Generally, they grow in the mid-section of the kratom tree where sunlight is plentiful but not scorching like the top. Green Vein is a popular mood stabilizer for recreational activities and anxiety. Step 2: Choose a Form

Kratom comes in a variety of forms: powder, capsules, tablets, and extracts. The form determines how fast and efficiently kratom takes effect. Once again, individual body chemistry regulates onset and duration. Initial reactions begin to appear within 30-40 minutes. Most kratom lasts 4-5 hours except for extracts which react quicker, peak faster, but fade in 3-4 hours.

Powder

Kratom leaf is ground into an ultra-fine, soft powder. However, due to its own ionic electrical attraction to itself, it is known to clump or bead at times. This can make it is difficult to swallow the first couple of times, much like the cinnamon challenge. Hence, powder is not recommended for first time users. But, with a little swallowing experience (more on that later), it is one of the most popular and cost-effective forms of kratom. Duration: 4-5 hours.

Extract

Some people prefer an occasional quick kratom jolt. Liquid extracts deliver this remedy promptly. For those with sensitive constitutions, extracts can be too strong and upset the stomach. Whereas kratom plant powder consist of whole-leaf matter including all 54 alkaloids, extracts are liquid containing just the two active kratom alkaloids: mitragynine and 7-Hydroxymitragynine but in higher concentrations. Extracting alkaloids is a tedious and costly process that produces high concentration of the two major alkaloids per bottle, but ultimately drives the end cost up for the consumer.
